The Grilling 101 – CattleWomen Style

IMG_6715

What is there better to do than grill a steak on a beautiful Texas afternoon?  Texas CattleWomen had a wonderful day at the Texas Beef Council Office.  We had CattleWomen members from various chapters across the state get together to experience the one and only Grilling 101.  If you have never experienced Grilling 101, this is a must.  I highly suggest you jump on the next opportunity when this amazing program is offered.

Grilling 101 is broken down into different sections; In one section you are shown some tips on how a newer/better method at grilling can be achieved.  In another part, you actually get to cook our own steak and the whole time you are learning and engaging in new techniques.  For instance, did you know that it is not wise to use a grill brush?  The bristles of the brush can break off when you are trying to clean the grill.  If they are not caught, they can stay stuck on the grill and then in turn get into your meat.  This is not good at all and can cause some serious problems if ingested.  Another option is to use foil.  Take some foil and roll it into a big ball and scrap the grill off with that.  Make sure to do this after you have let the coals burn down a little bit.  After you use the foil, you can get an onion and cut it in half.  Some of the H-E-B’s have an onion holder for this specific reason. You can attach the onion at the end of the grilling cleaner and it will help you clean the grill.

IMG_2112Did you know that you are supposed to cook your steaks at 400 degrees?  How do you know the temperature if you do not have a temperature gauge?  Well, if you hold your hand four inches above the coals and you can hold it there for four seconds then you are going to be pretty darn close to 400 degrees.

There were many more interesting things we were able to learn.  It is also very fascinating to learn how other CattleWomen Grill as well.  Are you interested in doing a Grilling 101 at your local chapter?  Be sure to reach out to the officer team if you think this would be a great idea for your chapter.  No matter how much of an expert you may be, I bet you could still learn something new.

Ranch to Runway Style Show

unnamed (5)Have you ever been to a fashion show?  Better yet, have you ever been to a CattleWomen fashion show?  Last week I had the privilege of being able to attend the Texas Coastal CattleWomen’s “Ranch to Runway Style Show” and Luncheon.  Being an officer at the State level, I have really been wanting to get more involved with the local CattleWomen chapters.  I want all of the Chapters to know that we support them and are here for them.  This was a great opportunity for me to attend, and I was so excited that I did.

unnamed (4)This place was fantastic!  First of all, who doesn’t like shopping?  This venue had all different kinds of booths for shopping lined up and ready for viewing.  From different styles of clothes, to jewelry booths, to makeup booths all the way to cowboy hats.  On top of the shopping there was a phenomenal lunch lined up for us! Even though I am doing the low carb gig, I was able to enjoy almost everything on my plate.

unnamed (2)Then there was the fashion show sponsored by Chico’s.  There where local CattleWomen from the chapter that picked several outfits and off they went down the run way.  I will tell you one thing; These ladies sure do know how to strut their stuff.  The outfits were amazing!  They definitely enticed me into wanting to buy some new clothes.  Watch out Chico’s!

unnamed (6)On top of the already many wonderful things about this event, there was a silent auction as well.  They had almost everything you could imagine there; From signed helmets to Valentine’s baskets to photography sessions.  It was great to be able to see all the companies that helped make this event possible.

unnamedThis event for Texas Coastal CattleWomen is their annual scholarship fundraiser.  With the money they raised, they are going to be able to give scholarships to the Texas Youth.  I was so thankful that I got to attend this event.  What made it even more special was the fact that I got to attend it with two ladies that mean a lot to me.  Mrs. Debbie Gill and Ms. Pam Bothe, the President Elect and President of Texas CattleWomen.

unnamed (3)I look forward to attending more events this year and be sure to let us know about your upcoming events, we would love to attend.
